6 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE INVESTING IN A NEW MATTRESS

Research has showed that we spend about a third of our lives sleeping, and a good mattress is a very important part of having a good night’s sleep. Our mattresses affect not just how we sleep but our well being too as I have learnt from personal experience a wrong mattress can leave you with all types of aches and pains that will affect your day to day life.

A lot of high street stores will allow you to try a mattress for a short period and if it’s not the right fit they have return policies so you can get the right one for you. Today’s post will be sharing 6 essential questions to ask yourself before you invest in a new mattress so you can make a considered decision that will help you find the right one.

  • Question 1 - Do you prefer a firm or soft mattress? - Answering this question will help you identify what your preference is so when you are looking you can narrow down your choices with your preference.

  • Question 2 - Will you need to compromise with your partner's preferences? - This is a follow up question from the first one, “what if I like a soft mattress and my partner prefers a firm mattress”, do you compromise or do you find something that will be a happy medium by getting a “medium firm” for example.

  • Question 3 - What is inside your mattress and how will it affect you? - Is it a memory foam, open spring or pocket sprung mattress ?, understanding these things will help you make an informed decision, and there are always sales consultants who can explain in more detail, if you can I always advise on making a trip to the stores and lying on the mattresses to get a better feel of your options.

  • Question 4- Are you allergic to any natural materials, such as wool or horsehair? - Following from the previous question, some high-end mattresses have natural materials and it’s important to be aware of any allergies you have, so you make the right purchase.

  • Question 5 - What is your budget? - I would happily argue that the right mattress for you is not always the most expensive, as long as you have a clear picture of what your needs are you can find something that suits you and your budget.

  • Question 6 - What is the maintenance required for the mattress? - it’s important to find out how you can get the most of your mattress as the lifespan is anything between 7-10years, whether you need to flip it once every 6 months, or rotate it this will allow you to increase the longevity and get the best out of your mattress. Mattress protectors and hoovering the mattress are always advised too as part of the care and maintenance.

I hope you have found this post helpful, and it makes your next mattress buying journey a little smoother.
